Every day I see an online article about, “How to Hire and Retain Millennials” or “What is it with these Millennials” written by someone who is most likely not a Millennial but a described millennial expert. The author writes about their survey findings while bucketing all Millennials from a wide age range into one group. I am sure a lot of research goes into their studies, and some authors have some good findings, but I cannot help myself picking most of them apart.
I have been a professional Recruiter for over a decade and I have talked to thousands of people including Millennials, Gen Xer’s, Baby Boomers, and Traditionalist during my professional career. I can tell you that what Millennials are looking for professionally are not that much different from other generations.
Here are my short and simple findings:
Work-life balance and fair compensation.
Inspiration and professional growth opportunities.
Please keep an open mind before reading these types of articles. It is not fair to bucket everyone between the ages of 21-38 as wanting the same thing. Everyone, regardless of their generational grouping, has different needs based on their personal life stories they are living.
